Overview

Our planning team successfully acted for the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and Thrive Homes, attaining full planning permission for the construction of a community sports centre (including a Gymnastics’ and Table Tennis Centre), and two buildings containing 33 affordable flats and 143sqm of community office / meeting space.

The Site comprised of the ‘Brooklands Reserve Site’ forming part of the Eastern Expansion Area of Milton Keynes. The Site had been reserved for the provision of community uses by planning permission granted in 2007, however no detailed planning consents for community uses had been submitted; with the Reserve Site remaining undeveloped some 12 years later.

The application represented an important opportunity to secure much needed sports facilities for community use, as a release date existed under the S106.

The Community Sports Centre will be a state of the art facility, and incorporates a public viewing gallery for approximately 270 people and an ancillary café.

Property Details

The two affordable housing blocks comprised of 14x 1-bedroom and 19x 2-bedroom flats, each designed to provide an open plan kitchen and living area with access to its own private balcony or terrace. The flats provide a good living environment and exceed National Space Standards. A community and meeting space of 143 sqm was provided on the ground floor of building 2, served by its own entrance. The space is arranged to provide 4 offices, a large meeting room with separate entrance and ancillary WC and kitchen facilities.

The delivery of the affordable housing for Thrive Homes, helped fund the sports and community facilities assisting the overall viability of the scheme, benefiting the long term needs of the local community.
